This is a general overview of the REIT structure and its evolution in Asia Pacific. In 2001, Japan became the first Asian country to adopt REIT laws, and since then, most Asian countries have either developed REIT legislation or gained access to REIT markets via other Asian bourses. By the end of 2015, Asia Pacific REITs number over 180 names and reach USD 250 billion in market cap, making Asia Pacific REITs a significant sector to invest and a significant player in the real estate market. This talk will discuss the journey Asia Pacific REITs have taken and its investment characteristics.
